Vitamin D
Friday, August 1, 2008, 10:25 AM
Cancer Prevention

Two recent studies suggest getting enough vitamin D could help prevent colon, breast, and ovarian cancers. The researchers, from the University of California, San Diego, say taking supplements to get more vitamin D might be an easy, inexpensive way to reduce the number of cancer cases in the US.
The skin makes vitamin D from ultraviolet light. Too much sunlight can raise the risk of skin cancer, but small amounts -- 15 minutes or so a few times a week without sunscreen -- may be beneficial, many doctors believe.

Meet your instructor!
Friday, August 1, 2008, 10:06 AM

My name is Laurie Harris and I've been a Jazzercise instructor for 7 years.
Teaching jazz has been the most rewarding job on so many levels. Dancing has always been a part of my life-- just love it. I remember as a young girl, learning to do the "pony" with my girl friends, thinking "wow, this is too fun". I started jazzercising back in the late 80's, was hooked for life.

When Michele Teague approached me about teaching, I thought, "me?"....thank goodness I went for it. I'll be 50 years old this year, and I must say, I'm in better shape than I was in my 30's. Jazzercise has taught me so much about movement, body awareness, rhythm, music.

I like gardening, cooking, entertaining my best girlfriends for lunches, going to live music concerts, movies. I've married for 24 years to a wonderful hard working man and have 3 kids....love them to pieces!
